CPPA Adds Fallen Officer Benefit via California
Casualty
CPPA, in partnership with California Casualty (A+ Auto & Home Insurance)
is pleased to announce a special policy feature designed to provide
peace of mind for the family/partner of an officer who makes the
ultimate sacrifice.
Effective Sept. 1, 2007, the Fallen Officer Survivor Benefit
is automatically available for all CPPA members insured through Cal
Casualty’s A+ program.
There’s no additional cost
involved, no calls or
paperwork required.
Should an officer’s life end in the line of duty, the A+ policy premium
will be waived for the surviving partner/spouse for the remainder of the
current policy year and for the following policy year.
For more information about this new benefit, or if you’d like a
no-obligation quote for auto and/or home insurance, call toll-free
877-999-8954.
Representatives are available 7am to 7pm, Monday to Friday, and Saturday
9am to 1 pm. Or request a
quote online at:
www.calcas.com/cppa.
California Casualty is currently the only company to offer this type of
premium waiver for fallen officers.
This new benefit, among many others including its recent free ID
Theft Resolution Service, is yet another reason
CPPA makes Cal Casualty’s A+ Auto & Home Insurance program available to
its members.
CPPA and Cal Casualty have been partners in providing members with
tailored auto and home insurance policies since 1995. Both
organizations recognize the enormous burden of families who lose a loved
one and hope this new Fallen Officer Survivor Benefit will help ease
their loss.
Cal Casualty takes great pride in protecting policyholders who protect
our communities.
The coverage described above is
not a contract and is subject to eligibility.
Your actual insurance policy determines the extent of coverage
you receive.)

CPPA Car Rental Discounts:
more homework but cheapest rate
Among CPPA’s benefits over the last couple of years have been discounts
with Avis, Hertz and Thrifty. Discount coupons for Avis and Hertz
are included with your CPPA Membership card each year with the corporate
ID numbers for all three car rentals listed on the back.
Some members
have called the CPPA office recently to report that when making
reservations with Avis and Hertz, the regular rates were significantly
cheaper than using the CPPA corporate ID number. We checked into it and
learned that it’s almost always cheaper to reserve via the Internet
because the companies don’t have to pay personnel.
But because rates vary with seasons, insurance
rates, age, etc., it’s wise to see if the rate is cheaper
with or without the CPPA ID number whether
you reserve over the ‘Net, by calling the company’s 800 number or going
through a travel agency. (Even taking your discount coupon to the
rental car counter at an airport can sometimes prove cheapest).
CPPA ANNUAL CONFERENCE BIG SUCCESS!
8 P.O.S.T.
CREDITS STILL AVAILABLE TO CERTIFIED OFFICERS WHO ATTENDED "BULLETPROOF
MIND"
CPPA is pleased to report that some
270 peace officers from around the state attended Lt. Col. Dave
Grossman's popular "Bulletproof Mind" seminar it hosted Sept. 14, 2007,
at the Denver South Marriott as the main event of its Annual Conference.
Scan sheets were available for P.O.S.T. certified regular/reserve
officers to fill out and receive 8 training credits. If you forgot
and want to receive the 8 credits, email
cppa@cppa.net or call the CPPA office at (800) 320-2772 (8:30-4:30
M-F) and request a scan sheet. We'll mail you one (be sure to
mention your preferred mailing address) to fill out and then send to the
P.O.S.T. office in Denver.
Col. Grossman received a standing
ovation at the end of his inspiring presentation and many attendees
bought copies of his books and DVD which he autographed. On Saturday 20
attendees returned to hear a cutting-edge 3-hour presentation on
"Tactical Medicine for Law Enforcement" by Dr. Carey Pelto, Medical and
Trauma Director for the Emergency Department at St. Thomas More Hospital
in Canon City. That evening over 110 gathered for CPPA's Awards Banquet
which honored Colorado Springs PD Det. Derek Graham with its
Distinguished Service Award and Aurora PD Officer Scott Osgood at its
Officer of the Year. U.S. Attorney for Colorado, the Honorable
Troy Eid, was an excellent keynote speaker and seven of CPPA's 19
Academic Scholarship winners for 2007 were on hand to be recognized and
receive their checks.
Look for a photo/article recap in the
Fall issue of CPPA's Law Enforcement Journal and mark Sept.
19-20, 2008 on your calendar! These are the dates for next year's
Annual Conference which will be held again at the Denver South Marriott
with speakers/topics to be announced once they're confirmed.

PPA
Pleased to Offer New Legal Defense Fund Provider to Colorado Peace
Officers
Means
better coverage and savings of $96/year for Plan 1 participants!
Effective Oct.1,
2006, CPPA began offering its Legal Defense Fund through PLEA
(Professional Law Enforcement Assn.), based in Michigan with over 13,000
participants nationwide and reserves of over $2 million.
“Every year the
incidence of civil, criminal and administrative action against public
safety officers for duty-related issues increases,” noted immediate past
CPPA president Dave Stassen. “For this reason CPPA is always looking for
ways to ensure that its members’ legal coverage is sufficient to meet
their needs while keeping the premiums affordable.”
Stassen, a
corporal with the Grand Junction PD, was instrumental in negotiating the
change along with CPPA General Manager Carole Charles and Guy Thoms,
CPPA’s LDF chairman and UCCS PD officer.
