You work hard to protect the public...Who's protecting you?

WHO IS CPPA?
The Colorado Police Protective Association is an association of associations, agencies and individuals, currently with a membership of 2,000, including 43 law enforcement associations and departments, representing 222 distinct communities throughout Colorado. CPPA is the catalyst to bring all these entities together in a common voice and with a common purpose, to protect the rights and benefits of individuals and associations.

Legislation

Each year hundreds of different bills are monitored by our lobbyist, at the direction of the Board of Directors.  During the 2007 legislative session in Denver, CPPA encouraged a number of bills good for Colorado law enforcement and discouraged several that weren't.  Of the 700 pieces of legislation introduced, some 50 impacted peace officers.

Our ability to ensure that the voice of all Colorado law enforcement is heard, is second to none.

Political Action

It has been said that in politics "perception is power." CPPA is perceived to be one of the largest single blocks of public safety employee votes in Colorado. Political action is the backbone of our legislative program. Each year, dozens of pieces of legislation that could potentially impact the public safety community are introduced into the state legislature. As your political watchdog, CPPA plays a key role in this process. Our job is to ensure that the best interests of public safety employees are served by this legislation.

Finally, CPPA works on its members behalf on a national level as well. Over the years, CPPA has forged fruitful working relationships with our Senators and Congressmen in Washington. These relationships allow us to introduce our points of view on specific legislation into the national political process.

Colorado Peace Officers Statutory Source Book

Revised annually, and containing nearly 800 pages of fully indexed essential information, the Colorado Peace Officers Statutory Source Book has become one of Colorado law enforcement’s leading sources of reference information.

The Colorado Peace Officers Statutory Source Book is divided into major categories of crimes and offenses. The general format for the individual crimes is: elements of the crime, a discussion of the issues of that crime which relate to officer investigation, and a listing of the penalties for the class of the crime. All statutes have been broken down into their elements for presentation in a uniform fashion.

The books are published and available each Fall.  The cost is $25.00 plus $6.00 shipping and handling.  If you are interested in purchasing a source book, you can send your check made out to "CPPA" to the CPPA office or contact the CPPA at 800.320.2772.
